Common questions

What does Baredoc remove?

From PDFs: the author, title, subject and keywords, the program that made the file, creation and save dates, the hidden metadata block, the document ID, earlier saved versions kept inside the file, comments and markup, attached files, scripts, layers and bookmarks. From Word files: the author and last editor, company, dates, comments, tracked changes, edit-session markers, the people list and the preview picture. From Excel and PowerPoint files: the same document properties, plus comments and speaker notes in PowerPoint and cell notes and comments in Excel.

Is anything left that Baredoc cannot remove?

Anything visible on the page stays, such as a struck-through line or a retyped paragraph. Baredoc removes speaker notes and cell notes, but only reports hidden text in Word files, hidden slides in PowerPoint and hidden sheets in Excel. Remove those in the original app before you share.

What is Deep clean?

For PDFs only. It turns each page into a picture, which removes every hidden trace, including text that was only covered by a black box. The cost is that the text can no longer be selected or searched, and the file gets bigger.

Why does Baredoc warn about black boxes?

A black box drawn over text in a PDF does not delete the words underneath. They can often still be copied out. Baredoc checks for this and tells you which text is still in the file.

Does Baredoc change my original file?

No. It makes a new copy named like Report-clean.pdf. Your original stays as it was.

How do I use it from Files or Mail?

Open the file, tap the Share button, and choose Baredoc. If you do not see it, swipe the row of apps to the end, tap More, and turn Baredoc on.

Why can't Baredoc open my PDF?

PDFs that need a password cannot be opened. Remove the password in the app that made the file first. Files over 150 MB in the app, or 40 MB from the share sheet, are also left out.

Does Baredoc upload my documents?

No. Everything happens on your iPhone. See the privacy policy.
